About The Architect

I have been working directly in the architectural field since 1994, established my own informal home office design-management firm called Grigsby Design in 1998 , was licensed by the State of Montana to practice architecture in 2002, and formally incorporated under the name of DRG Architects, P.C. in 2004.   In addition to my architectural experience I have a diverse construction and planning background that dates back to the early 1970's.

I graduated from Montana State University in 1991 with a Bachelor Degree in Architecture and spent most of the next four years working for the Bozeman City-County Planning Office as a Planner.  I gained extensive experience in subdivision review, development planning, and the latest in nation-wide city and county planning strategies and current trends.  I also spent a great deal of time working with the City Design Review Board overseeing design approvals for projects in the Entryway Corridor and Historic Preservation Districts.  I received my I.C.B.O. Building Inspector Certification in 1994.

I worked in the construction industry for nearly fifteen years as a carpenter, residential home contractor, and project manager before returning to college to finish my architectural degree.

I worked on several residential and commercial projects both while working as an intern architect for an architectural firm in Bozeman, MT. and while self employed as Grigsby Design and DRG Architects.  My background, training, and design talents have been an integral component of my success as an architect.  I enjoy working with my clients and their builders and believe strongly in teamwork to assure the most successful project.

During my years as a builder I had the opportunity to work with several architects on a variety of projects. Experience proved that poorly executed plans failed to bridge the gap between "good" design and "good-buildable" design resulting in many of the problems throughout construction, straining relations and creating an overall less than desireable experience between and for the different parties involved in the project.

With my design background, talent, and diverse construction knowledge, I believed that make a genuine contribution to the industry as an architect.
I believe my plans and services reflect my background in their quality.  Better plans mean less mistakes during construction, better communication, and better relations between the architect, the owner, and the builder.

My goal has been to supply the talent, knowledge, and effort required to provide my clients with the best possible ideas, design, and plans enabling them to realize the full potential of their dreams, and to create a finished project they can be truly proud of.  As you view the following examples of my work and read the comments from several of my clients, I believe you will discover my success in this endeavor.
